Elmer Gantry: A New American Opera

This is going to be a blog devoted to the new opera ELMER GANTRY, with entries from me, the librettist; Bob Aldridge the composer; and other people connected to the opera. Keith, our Elmer, and Jenny, our Sister Sharon, will certainly be posting (if I have anything to say about it.) Keep an eye on this space as we move towards our opening in Nashville on November 16.

I'd also like to welcome everyone to our new blog. I'm ashamed to admit that I've never before written a blog, and so far, it's great fun!

It's going to be a very exciting fall, with the co-premieres of ELMER GANTRY in Nashville and in Montclair. We have an amazing cast, and an amazing production team...

Bob and I returned from a glorious weekend in Nashville, where rehearsals are getting underway for the world premiere of ELMER GANTRY. It was a great experience. You can read my view of things below. From now on, we're throwing this blog open to all the participants in Nashville, so we hope to hear from them. The cast, the chorus, the director, conductor, even the entire administration -- EVERYONE down there is totally committed and working at the top of their form. They are going to have some stories to tell.

Elmer Gantry, the cocktail

4 ozs. Woodford Reserve bourbon
ice

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake with conviction. Serve in a chilled martini glass. (When shaken sufficiently, the drink should have a thin layer of foam at the top.) Consume immediately.
